It’s either a bathroom break or a mid-night snack at 1:30am. But, some people have more trouble sleeping than their 10-minute pause from sleep. While stated that a bat sleeps about 20 hours a day, humans only receive an average of 7 to 9 hours. With the lack of sleep many can receive an illness, depression or sleep depravation. This can lead to falling asleep on the road, going to the doctors or a very bad mood. Many may also say that they can’t turn their brains off at night, while they are coincidentally correct. Our minds are filled with stress and caffeine, with effects us greatly at night. One of the general problems scientists have discovered is anxiety. This is because you’re alone with your thoughts for usually the first part of the day, and it is over-whelming. "Worrying prompts your body to produce the adrenaline-like chemical epinephrine, which keeps you awake," says Joyce Walsleben, associate professor of medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. Two of many strategies that scientist feel will help a good night sleep is: take a bath one-hour before bed, and put on a pair of socks before heading to bed. Taking a bath helps you relax psychologically. Another "hypothesis" that scientist feel with provide a good night sleep is exercise. "The body must exert energy to get physically tired," says James Maas, a professor of psychology at Cornell University. Maas is also the author of Power Sleep. So, even 30 minutes of aerobics or a 30-minute run will help you be more "exhausted" at night. Exercise can also help you lose weight, and it reduces stress. Just think, exercise is a reliever for the day, which is what sleep should also be. Sleep is a time when you have a break from work or school, or even sports. I think it is "me" time which is why I think it is important. I know that I will try to get more sleep at night because it really does relieve stress. Sleep is the start of a FRESH new day. So I do agree with what these scientists are saying because everyone deserves sleep. If you’re not getting enough sleep, then you should try these steps too.
